About Jay

Long Island native, Jay Schneiderman lives in Southampton. He has two children.

After graduating from Hauppauge High School, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Ithaca College and then obtained a Master of Arts degree in Education from the State University of New York at Cortland.

After taking his degree Schneiderman taught science, mathematics, and music in East End schools, managed his family’s business in Montauk, and later formed a property management company.

In 1991 Schneiderman became a member of the Town of East Hampton Zoning Board of Appeals, and was appointed to its chairmanship in 1996. He served in that capacity until 1999 when he was elected to the first of two terms as East Hampton Town Supervisor where he served until in 2003.

Legislator Schneiderman is credited with many accomplishments including the widening of County Road 39 in Southampton, initiating Suffolk County public bus service on Sundays, preserving thousands of acres of open space and farmland, and never raising general fund property taxes is 14 years of elected office.

In 2003 he was elected to the county legislature and re-elected in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2013.

In 2015 Jay was elected Supervisor of the Town of Southampton. He was re-elected in 2017.
